About Robin Connell

Originally from Detroit, jazz pianist/singer, Robin Connell, led her own jazz band and worked as a side-woman during the decade she lived in New York City. She enjoyed twenty summers teaching jazz studies at the Interlochen Arts Camp (her most famous student, Norah Jones, studied with Robin for two summers). Her varied resume includes commercials, film scoring, conducting, composing, arranging, and teaching. Currently Robin continues gigging (concerts _private events) and is adjunct music faculty at Grand Rapids Community College and Aquinas College. She is married to Paul Brewer, a superb trombonist (and Director of Bands at Aquinas), and the two often play gigs together. As an educator, Robin has directed Downbeat award winning student jazz bands and vocal groups including guest conducting All-State and regional conferences. As a performer/clinician/adjudicator, Robin?s credits include the Tulsa Jazz Festival (OK), UNC Jazz Festival (CO), Wichita Jazz Festival (KS), Capital University (OH), ISU (Illinois), MEA conferences in Colorado, Kansas, Massachusetts and Illinois, IAJE conferences in NYC and Atlanta, and MSBOA festivals in Michigan.
